We’re proud to announce a new partnership with ViiV Healthcare, the global specialist HIV company majority owned by GSK, with Shionogi as a shareholder. ViiV Healthcare has appointed Axmed as a non-exclusive distributor, enabling local governments and healthcare institutions in more than 50 middle-income countries to procure ViiV Healthcare’s innovative HIV medicines.
Middle-income countries face distinct access challenges. Many are not eligible for some of the mechanisms available to lower-income countries, leaving health systems in need of new routes to efficiently procure the medicines their populations need.
Through this partnership, Axmed will use its technology-enabled procurement infrastructure to aggregate demand, improve visibility, and connect eligible healthcare buyers with suppliers and logistics partners. The aim is to create a more coordinated and efficient route to supply.
“The promise of medical innovation is only fulfilled when it reaches the people who need it. Technology gives us an extraordinary opportunity to reimagine how that happens, connecting fragmented markets, unlocking more affordable procurement and streamlining access to vital medicines. Through this agreement with ViiV Healthcare, we are working towards a future where more people can benefit from advances in HIV care, regardless of where they live.”
Emmanuel Akpakwu
CEO and Founder, Axmed
“This agreement underlines ViiV Healthcare’s leadership in the global HIV response and our deep understanding of the realities in middle-income countries. Shaped by listening closely to communities and governments, this announcement is an important step in supporting them to access more choice in HIV care, strengthen health systems and accelerate progress towards our shared goal of ending the HIV epidemic.”
Deborah Waterhouse
CEO, ViiV Healthcare
For us, this is what building infrastructure for access looks like: bringing together innovative medicines, healthcare demand, and the systems needed to get products where they are needed. We’re excited to work with ViiV Healthcare to support national HIV programmes and help expand choice in HIV care.
